From Challengers to Owners: A Story of Service, Loss, and Transformation at The Camp

Charlie and I began our journey with The Camp Transformation Center in June 2018 as challengers at the Menifee location. Both of us had served in the Marine Corps, and after I retired in 2012, life became hectic. Fitness slowly took a back seat. Things became even more difficult in 2015, when Charlie’s dad was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. Watching him fight cancer—and eventually pass away in January 2018—was heartbreaking. The emotional toll affected our physical health. By the time we joined The Camp, Charlie weighed over 330 pounds and I was approaching 220.

A fellow Marine brother and close friend, Travis, introduced us to The Camp after he discovered the Hemet location. He encouraged us to visit Menifee—and we did. Charlie and I signed up for the 6-Week Challenge and ended up completing three rounds back-to-back. Together, we lost a total of 146.5 pounds—Charlie dropped nearly 100 pounds on his own. That experience changed everything for us.

We became full-time members and never looked back. The Camp gave us more than just weight loss—it gave us a sense of purpose, a tight-knit community, and a culture we immediately connected with. Our transformation boards, proudly displayed at The Camp Menifee, serve as daily reminders of how far we’ve come—and how much is possible with the right support system.

Even before COVID, we started exploring the idea of owning a Camp. Although a few opportunities didn’t pan out, we never gave up on the dream. In August 2024, Brittney reached out about a new chance: purchasing The Camp Murrieta. At first, we were hesitant due to a past financial roadblock, but everything aligned this time. We knew this was the opportunity we had been waiting for.

On December 1, 2024, we officially became the new owners of The Camp Murrieta. Since then, it has been everything we hoped for and more. The Murrieta team and AFF welcomed us with open arms, and we’re truly honored to now be helping others transform their lives—just as The Camp once helped transform ours.
