The Camp TC Opens Our First Location of 2022 in Brentwood, CA

The Camp Transformation Center is excited to announce that we have opened our first new location in 2022. Help me congratulate John & Sophia McKenzie on their brand-new franchise location in Brentwood, CA. They are first time franchise owners with a passion for fitness and a willingness to help their community. They embody our brand through and through. We had a chance to catch up with Sophia and John this week and ask them what it’s like to be new franchise owners. Here’s what they had to say.

Why did you choose to franchise with The Camp?

We chose to franchise with the camp because we believed in its mission statement and saw it as an investment in people’s lives and ours.

What were you most scared about as a new franchise owner?

That we did not have any business acumen. We have been in leadership roles but never like this. It is an honor and a huge responsibility to have so many people depend on us and we want to serve them as best we can.

What excited you most about being a new franchise owner?

That we would be able to share our love of the camp with new members and see their transformations

When did you open your first location? Are you looking to be a multi-unit owner?

We signed our FDD late July of 2021, our lease in October of 2021 and had our soft opening February 12th, 2022.

Now that the location is open, what do you like most about being a franchise owner?

Seeing our membership grow through referrals, watching our members fall in love with The Camp and its community and seeing them support each other.

What was the most challenging part of opening your new location?

Supply issues in late 2021 and 2022. The delay in receiving gym equipment in a timely manner has certainly been challenging but we have learned to adapt.

What help & guidance did the support team provide that you found useful/helpful?

The Camp Franchise Team has been phenomenal – from our two-week Franchisee training to ongoing weekly sales training, to simply responding quickly via email or text has been such a great help. Learning to connect with members through Sales Training has been super helpful. Catia, Ron, Dani, Chris, Kyle, Alejandra and Louis were and are accessible every step of the way.

What advice would you give to a new franchise owner?

Reach out to your local Camp Franchise Owners. We were fortunate to talk to Gia and Kelly in Manteca, Faby of Arcadia, AZ, Carmina of Modesto and Charm and Jose of Livermore/Dublin. We asked a lot of questions, and they were very forthcoming and supportive. We also used the Corporate Franchise Team who are amazing.

Lastly, tell us a fun fact about yourselves.

Sophia loves crafting and reading. This helped with all our documents we had to read and sign, as well as with the designing of The Camp Bentwood. John has some background as an electrician and handyman. His experience helped us out tremendously during the buildout.  We love going to country music concerts – the ability to mingle and speak with complete strangers certainly helped with building our Brentwood Camp community. We also convinced our daughter to join The Camp Community and now she helps with running the day-to-day operations at Brentwood.
